    Course Overview:

    This training course is aimed primarily at potential installers of packaged heat pump systems for the domestic and small commercial sector. It delivers the fundamental principles for the understanding, specification and installation processes of heat pump systems for the heating and cooling of buildings.

    Course Content:

    • Environmental and economic arguments for the installation of heat pump systems.
    • Relevance of structural insulation, alternative and complimentary energy saving technologies.
    • Working principles of heat pump technology.
    • Calculation and specification of heat pump systems.
    • Heat and hot water distribution methods, integration and control.
    • Installation, commissioning and fault finding a heat pump installation.
    • Resources and responsibilities associated with heat pump installations.

    Course Schedule:

    The course will be on site training delivery between 9am to 5pm by Dundalk Institute of Technology on-campus on the following dates:

      • Friday 28th October 
      • Friday 4th November
      • Friday 18th November 
      • Friday 25th November
      • Final Exam: Friday 2nd December 28th 

    Participants are advised that there is work required in addition to approximately 30 hours of class attendance, specifically continuous assessment work which must be undertaken in the participants own time. It is estimated that in addition to class attendance that there are an additional 30 hours of independent study required.

    Entry Requirements:

    Participants must hold a Level 6 Advanced Craft Certificate in Plumbing or equivalent. Practitioners with a background in related fields of technology and a number of years relevant experience may also be considered (e.g. members of RGII/OFTEC/Safe Electric). Each application will be assessed by DkIT as to the candidates entry qualifications. All participants must provide a valid email address to allow for receipt of course documentation.

    Course Award:

    This is a single standalone module worth 5 Credits at QQI Level 6 awarded by Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT). Assessment shall be made up of: Practical Assessment (20%), Continuous Assessment (40%), and End of Module Formal Examination (40%); a minimum of 40% is required for a Pass grade.

    Further Information:

    DkIT accepts no reasonability for any participants application to the SEAI as a registered Heat Pump installer; this is a matter purely between the SEAI and any individual concerned .

    Currently, as a consequence of Covid-19 safety restrictions, all participants must wear face coverings while attending the DkIT campus and provide their own stationary.

    Cancellation Policy

    Cancellations

    Delegates who cancel their place on or two working days before will have their fees refunded, less an administrative charge of €50 per trainee. No refunds will be made to those cancelling after that date, but replacement delegates will be accepted. Non-attendees are still liable for payment for the conference.
